The approval screen shows which app is asking, which account it will work as and what approving allows. Approve or deny.
Create a key on the Connect page for clients that do not use OAuth. Setup steps are shown for each client.

New PHP files go to a sandbox directory. If one causes a fatal error, the loader skips it instead of breaking the site.

Smart MCP is a WordPress plugin that turns your site into an AI workspace. It combines a native AI chat assistant with tools for your content, store and page builder, a permission-based approval system, and a built-in MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that external AI clients can connect to.
Any client that supports the Model Context Protocol. That includes Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cline, Roo Code, Zed, and more. Enable external access in settings, generate an API key, and connect to your site's MCP endpoint.
OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google Gemini, OpenRouter, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Add your API key on the AI Providers page. Keys are encrypted at rest and never shown again.
Security first. Every tool requires a WordPress capability. Medium and high-risk actions (creating posts, moderating comments, uploading media) need your explicit approval before they run. The AI never bypasses permissions. All actions are logged in the audit trail.
No. Your AI provider key is saved in your own WordPress database, encrypted with sodium using a key derived from your site's secret salts. It never reaches WP Smarto. Your site sends it only to the AI provider you chose, and the plugin never shows it again in full.
No. Chat messages go straight from your site to the AI provider you picked, and AI apps such as Claude or ChatGPT connect directly to your site, with no relay server in between. The free plugin has no tracking and does not call our servers. Smart MCP Pro contacts wpsmarto.com only to activate your license and check for updates.
Only inside the limits you set. You choose a permission policy (Strict, Standard or Full control), risky actions wait for your approval, and the AI can only do what the WordPress account it works as is allowed to do. Bigger changes to live pages are made on a private draft copy and go live only when you say so.
Yes. Every post and page the AI changes in a conversation gets a restore point, including Elementor designs. Ask it to undo and everything from that chat goes back, and posts it created move to the trash. Revisions are kept too.
External access is off by default. When you turn it on, apps can do content work only: posts, pages, media, comments and read-only site information. They cannot install plugins, manage users, change settings or edit code, and they work as an Editor-level account you choose. Every action is recorded in the Audit Log.
